Capeway Rovers Motorcycle Club, located in Middleboro, Massachusetts, is not your average motocross track. Founded in 1934, Capeway Rovers boasts the title of the oldest on the East Coast. Its rich history stretches back to a humble beginning behind a Chase Chevrolet dealership in Bourne, Massachusetts. But like a true champion, Capeway Rovers weathered the storm of eminent domain, relocating in 1951 to its current 60-acre throne nestled amongst cranberry bogs.
This hallowed ground has witnessed motocross royalty carve their legacies in the dirt. Local titans like Dick Bettencourt, Jo Jo Keller, and Doug Henry all left their indelible mark at Middleboro. Over 800 races later, Capeway Rovers remains a cornerstone of motocross history.
Speaking of history, here's a juicy nugget for the motocross trivia: while Bernie Yelin of Southwick gets the official nod for inventing the backwards-falling starting gate, local lore claims that Capeway Rovers' own Dick Roy, father of motocross racer Dwight Roy, built a similar contraption years earlier. If that is true – Capeway Rovers might have been the OG of the gate drop!
